London has more than 6,000 restaurants and you can find cuisine from nearly every country in the world.
London restaurants offer international cuisine at the the highest standard as well as more traditional English cuisine. If you are looking for traditional English food many of the pubs all around London serve it. London is a city that never sleeps, so it would be possible to get something to eat almost at any time of the day and night. In the theater districts many restaurants keep open until after midnight, enabling theater goers to have dinner after they have been to a show.
If you are looking for particular nationalities these tend to be clustered in certain areas. China Town in Soho is a good place to go for chinese food, Edgware Road in Marylebone is known for Middle Eastern cuisine and Drummond Street for a selection of good value Indian food. Brick Lane in East London is famous for curries, so is Tooting in South West London, where you may get better value for money. Brixton is well known for African/Caribbean food, Golders Green for Jewish and Kingsland Road for good cheap Vietnamese. Other nationalities are equally represented, but are more randomly dotted all over London.
London also has a lot of restaurant chains, many of them are international chains, some more local. Sandwich shops are London's most popular places to buy lunch, and there are lot of places to choose from. London also has plenty of vegetarian-only restaurants, but most restaurants will cater for vegetarians, and will have at least a couple of dishes on the menu. Due to the mix of cultures and religions, many London restaurants cater well for religious dietary requirements. The most common signs are for Halal and Kosher.
The traditional English afternoon tea, which includes sandwiches and cakes or pastries, is an age old English tradition still being carried out today. Park Lane Hotel, the Ritz, the Dorchester, the Berkeley, Browns Hotel etc., gives you an opportunity to be part of this English tradition, but make sure to book in advance.
