London has a wide range of peoples, cultures and religions, more than 300 languages are spoken within the city. Situated on the River Thames, Greater London has an official population of around 7.5 mill. people, and the whole of the metropolitan area is estimated to have a total population of over 14 mill. London is one of the great cities of the world, and remains a global capital of culture, fashion, finance, trade and politics.
London is the capital of the United Kingdom and the largest city in Western Europe and the European Union. London is also a city with many green areas. The largest parks in central London are Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens at the western edge of central London and Regent's Park on the northern edge. Hyde Park is probably the most popular of the parks, and among other things known for sports, Speakers Corner and open-air concerts. Regents Park is located near Madame Tussauds Wax Museum, and contains London Zoo, the worlds oldest scientific zoo. Closer to central London are the smaller parks of Green Park and St. James's Park.
As a tourist destination, London has it all: museums, theatres, great shopping areas, all kind of entertainment, restaurants, impressive buildings, the River Thames, history, culture, bars, pubs and international night clubs, among other things.
